Why Apple Wallet beats an app or a paper punch card

Apple Wallet is the app where your customers already keep their bank card, train tickets and boarding passes. It comes preinstalled on every iPhone. Putting your loyalty card there means placing it where they look when they pay, which is exactly in front of your register.

• Nothing to download. A loyalty app asks for a download, an account and a password: at the counter, a good share of customers give up along the way. With Apple Wallet, one scan and a first name are enough.
• Impossible to leave at home. The paper card stays in a drawer. The Wallet card lives in the phone, and the phone never leaves their pocket.

Why a business owner can't do it alone

Creating a real Apple Wallet card isn't just a matter of designing a file. Apple requires every card to be cryptographically signed, which means:

• a paid Apple Developer account, renewed every year;
• a signing certificate dedicated to Wallet cards, to generate and renew;
• a server that talks to Apple to update the cards and send notifications with every stamp.

What your card does once it's in the Wallet

• The stamp count updates in real time. Your customer sees "7/10" and knows their reward is getting close.
• Lock screen notifications. Stamp added, reward reached, Saturday offer: the message shows up as a notification, with no app.
• Edit it whenever you like. New photo, new reward, new colors: the cards already installed on your customers' phones update automatically. Nothing to reprint, nothing to ask them.
• Event tickets on top of the card. A tasting evening, a "20% off on Tuesday afternoons": a dated ticket your regulars keep in the same Wallet (Pro plan).

What about your Android customers?

They're not left out, and you don't have to do anything twice. The same QR code detects the phone: on iPhone the card is added to Apple Wallet, on Android it's added to Google Wallet.
